Youth Information

Welcome
Thank you for your interest in the Thames Turbo Triathlon Club (TTTC) based in Hampton, Middlesex. Formed in 1983, with over 350 Members, we are one of the oldest and largest triathlon clubs in the UK, this year celebrating 25 years old. We are a broad-ability club with members of all ages (8–60+ years) ranging from novice to multiple Ironman athletes. Our Youth section has around 100 youngsters.

We pride ourselves on our competitive history and can count three World Champions and other elite athletes amongst our alumni: Stuart Hayes, Spencer Smith, Richard Stannard and current World Champion Tim Don have all been Turbos on their way to the top! Currently Dion Harrison, Emma Dews and Esther Evans are amoung our World Class athletes.

Training
Youth membership is on an all-inclusive fees basis. Membership gives access to a range of coached swimming, and bike/run sessions. Being located in Hampton gives us the opportunity to make use of some of the excellent nearby training facilities such as Hampton Open Air Pool, Richmond and Bushy Parks.

We have a team of coaches who are well qualified to British Triathlon Federation (BTF) Levels 1, 2 and 3. They are all fully CRB checked and experienced in working with younger athletes. You can see an example training programme in this membership area or simply look at our calendar.

Other Benefits
As well as our busy training schedule, the Club is also very sociable with summer barbeques, an annual awards party, and a Christmas event. Members receive additional benefits such as money-off vouchers for Club race kit, discounts with selected sports retailers (Sigma, Sweat Shop) and reduced BTF membership. The Members only area of the Club website also provides Members with valuable training/racing information and tips, and is a useful and lively interactive networking forum.

Getting Started
Our Youth section takes youngsters from 8 years upwards. The focus of the section is on fun training that is accessible to all ability levels, although we also boast some London regional champions. The youths have a full and competitive race and training schedule. The club is keen that all youth members engage fully in racing for the club at our own London Region event and further afield.

Training includes two weekly swm sessions, and a weekly bike/run session for all. A weekly core/turbo, track and Saturday run session are also open to older youths (12 plus, depending on ability). To be comfortable in training sessions youths should be competent swimmers over a minimum of 100 front crawl, able to ride a bike, but not required to have high level bike riding skills or running experience. You can see an example training programme in this membership area.

Once a place is available, we operate a two week trial period for prospective members, giving them the opportunity to try out some of the training sessions to see whether they enjoy them and wish to join the Club.  After that, if you want to join, there is a simple Membership Application Form and Parental Consent Form to fill in and return, together with your membership fee.

PLEASE NOTE THERE IS CURRENTLY A WAITING LIST FOR YOUTH MEMBERS. If you wish to join our waiting list we will ask for your swim times for 100m, 200m and/or 400m if appropriate, without your swim times we cannt put you on the waiting list. This is because vacancies occur in different swimming ability lanes (as youngsters move on or up) at different tmes. Wait times for lanes therefore vary.
