An epic turnout from both Turbos and FulonTri, and all done in the company of 4 times Ironman World Champion and World record holder Chrissie Wellington. Saturday 16th of December saw the annual mob match at Richmond Parkrun 5km against our friends at FulonTri. This year we sent 103 of our best people v’s FulonTri sending 83. Results can be found here. Life really is great being a Turbo.

The rain held off nicely for a cool summers evening racing and a staggered start to the race meant the faster athletes didn’t know where they were in the finishers until the end. Paul Smoothy from Thames Turbo Triathlon Club beat Tim Male from Thames Turbo PowerBar by 10seconds with Tom Higgins coming third.
For the ladies, Katie Murray came first, Nici Cahusac came second with only 12 seconds later Michaela Furlong.

There were quite a few snappers out at Race 2. Our official photographer Phil O’Connor has been photographing sport since 1981 and had many thousands of photographs published especially in Cycling Weekly and Cyclesport. The company endeavour to have event images on-line quickly and available for purchase as prints or digital download. Race photos can be viewed here or at www.philoconnor.com
Also out on the course was our very own treasurer David Thomas. His photos can be seen at http://sports.webshots.com/album/580134450FWdNja
The picture shows the Worlds fastest age group duathlete, Victoria Gill. Thames Turbo picked up 2 medals at the 2010 World Age Group Duathlon championships in Edinburgh on the 4th September. Duathlon age group legend Esther Evans picked up a Silver in the F35-39 race adding to her collection of gold medals from championships past. Victoria Gill in her first World Championships held off Ceri Styler, an Olympic cyclist no less, to claim the F30-34 title and the overall age group title. Both girls backed up the comments of John Levison (the commentator) who stated that Thames Turbo was probably the most famous tri club in the world. We think so too. Well done girls you did us proud.
A slightly damp bank holiday morning greeted over 400 sprint triathletes that travelled from all over the South East of England. Well done to all those who braved the conditions and finished. The results can be found here. A special well done to our male winner Andrew Mercer (Thames Turbo Sigma Sport) and our female winner Helen Smith (Thames Turbo Sigma Sport).
Once again the results can be found here.
At the weekend Luke Penney and Pav Rooprai took their place as part of the London Region Team to race at the Inter Regional Championship in Wales. For the first time this year the race involved an open water swim and was draft legal.
To be selected for the team you had to be first or second in your age group in the selection races that took place throughout the spring/summer. For Luke this was his second appearance at the National level competion, Pav only started triathlon this season so what an amazing achievement. Both boys had fantastic races and Luke came 3rd in his age group in the country.
Lucy Bowen won the female sub 2.30 wave and Andrew Mercer was 3rd in the mens race. The Thames Turbo army was out in force both on the course and spectating. Well done to all who competed.
Ceepo Venom bikes powered the both teams to double victory in the male and female races at the annual Bananaman Team Time Trial at Dorney Lake.
For as many years as Bananaman has been running Thames Turbo has won at least one of the races. The men have dominated this event over the years with a 100% record. 2009 was no exception with Thames Turbo Sigma Sport teams taking top spot on both the mens and womens races. Go turbos!
Teams this year were as follows:
Male- Richard Legge, Tim Male, Andrew Mercer (TTTC B)
Female – Lucy Bowen, Esther Evans, Helen Smith (TTTC A)
