Wednesday Turbo Training
What
The extremely popular indoor bike session (turbo training) is back once again. Signup now to avoid disappointment (see bottom of thread to signup).
Where
All sessions will be held @ Hampton Pool Studio. This is the new facility the Hampton Pool have created for dry land activities. I predict we will be able to fit 16 people into the studio (excluding me) so I’ll have to cap numbers at 16 per session for the time being (I’ll review after the first week). There will be a number of turbo trainers available for those who haven’t purchased one yet.
Who
Coach Barr (BTA Level 2 coach) will be coaching the sessions once again. With 18 years experience of time trialing, mountain bike racing, adventure racing and road racing you’re in good hands. Sessions are available to all Thames Turbo full members. If there is space available people are more than welcome to do two sessions.
Why?
Turbo training can be boring and sometimes it’s very easy to just miss the session out!! During the winter months when it’s dark, wet and cold getting out on the open road during the week may not be an option for some. By having a fun group of Turbos to train with and a planned session to follow… your biking will almost certainly benefit.
A few pointers for those attending their first turbo session.
1) Bring at least 2 full bottles of water and hydrate regularly during the session. Also arrive hydrated you will be suprised what a difference this can make to your performance
2) Bring something to elevate your front wheel (yellow pages or a block of wood are good. Don’t worry about this if you are planning on using one of the club turbos as they come with a wheel riser).
3) Take it easy during the day - Turbo sessions are best done when rested. You will get the most out of the session.
4) The sessions start at 7.30pm and finished at 9pm. Don’t worry though the first 10 mins and the last 15 mins are really a warmup.
5) Place the bike on level ground and make sure its stable.
6) Turbo sessions are free to all full Thames Turbo club members.
7) Bring a towel and place it on your handlebars.
Cover your bike computer with a bit of cling film (to prevent sweat getting at the computer and its contact points).
9) Sweat is very corrosive so don’t forget to clean your bike when you finish.
10) Please get there 15 mins early to setup.
11) Don’t worry if you’ve only got a MTB. We’ve purchased a few trainers that will work using the wheel rim. Do let me know though to avoid disappointment.
12) The club has around 10 turbos so if you don’t have one you can borrow one. Just let me know using the signup on the post.
